"Art for arts sake." The history of photography is so interesting to me. It began as a medium to document reality in a utilitarian way. For cataloging purposes and even the documentation of the deceased. It's path was redirected when artists began using it as a way to create images "for arts sake." Images that had no utilitarian or photo journalistic aspects. Thus was born the genre of "fine art photography". Photos that were created with the intent of being aesthetically pleasing and sometimes to incite thought or conversation. Fine art photography has nothing to do with the type of camera you use. I wish I could scream this last sentence! lol...a film camera does not automatically qualify the images created as "fine art." It's qualifications are the photographers intent and artistic vision, regardless of type of camera used. As a wedding photographer, I am constantly toggling between performing as a photo journalist (ya know all those actually candid moments) and a fine art photographer (those bridal portraits that don't attempt to document the reality but solely to create a beautiful image). A few years ago I even had a couple who wanted a 100% photo journalistic wedding coverage! No posed photos nada, zip, none!
