“Secret” Beach Near Aulani

If you’re traveling to Oahu in Hawaii for summer vacation and want to squeeze in a quick family photo session near your resort in Ko’olina, then Secret Beach is the way to go. There are alot of good things about this location as well as some not so great things. I’ll go over the pros and cons of choosing this beach location for your summer vacation photos.

Why Family Photos at Ko’olina is Great

Your Oahu vacation is kicking off at Aulani Resort or The Marriott and your kids are loving it. Ko’olina is a great vacation town because of the nearby restaurants and great family friendly beaches. So you research Hawaii family photographers and come across Megan Moura Photography. I’m so grateful! And ideally you want to do your photos at a beach where you can walk to!

Pros:

1. It’s in walking distance from The Aulani Hotel and Resort, The Four Seasons and The Marriott.
2. It has sand, water AND rocks. A variety of backgrounds
3. You can easily squeeze this into your plans

With all these amazing points for a great photoshoot in the making, there is one factor that you must consider. “Secret” no longer! This beach is very small and it has become very popular with vacationers staying in the numerous resorts nearby. A small beach coupled with many other photographers and families means that you will have to share the space. You WILL have other families next to you, all doing their own photos. This affects the vibe more so than the final images produced. It doesn’t feel secret at all.

Cons:

1. Not a secret anymore: many other families will be doing their family photos next to you
2. If there is a monk seal on the beach The Department of Land and Natural Resource WILL rope of a large portion of the sand. Meaning, your available space will be further reduced.
