When to Treat Yourself with A Milestone Photo Session

First, let’s talk about what is a milestone photo session! A milestone photo session is meant to celebrate major life milestones such as turning 20, 30, 40, 50 or beyond. It isn’t only reserved for major birthdays, in fact, all important life events like graduations or job changes. However, in this case, it was to celebrate a new decade of a wonderful life. Shannon said goodbye to her twenties and welcomed her thirties in great style. She wore a vibrant yellow and blue floral maxi dress with a sexy slit on one side. Further accentuating the look, she paired it with a gold statement earring. Her look was on point and her excitement for the shoot took it to the next level.

How to Prepare for A “Turning 30” Photoshoot

So, you’re entering a new decade of life and are ready to celebrate it with a fun photoshoot in Hawaii, but you’re unsure about what it entails. Let me start by saying that this is a photo shoot just for you, no one else. It isn’t for your family or friends or even your significant other, although I’m sure your s.o. will love the images. No, this is a special time and we are here to celebrate YOU. With that said, all our preparation will center on making you look and feel as amazing as you truly are. This is a form of self love and I highly suggest treating yourself with whatever makes you feel sexy, beautiful and super excited for a photoshoot. This preparation may include having your hair and makeup done by a team of talented professionals. Perhaps, a shopping trip to find that one outfit that makes you glow. Or, it may include none of that! If treating yourself aligns more with meditation and centering yourself before this shoot, then that is what you will do! Whatever best prepares you for a fun time with me, your photographer, that is what I suggest. I just ask that you come as you are.

What location is best for milestone portrait sessions?

As you imagine, Hawai’i is best known for its beaches. While many beaches on Oahu are jam packed with beachgoers, I highly suggest choosing a location that is less busy. For a few reasons, the first being that you don’t want a ton of beachgoers or tourists watching you. Of course, a few here or there is to be expected but a “few” is far different than dozens. When you work with me, we will explore the area and find spots that have the best lighting and environment. So a location that allows you and I to move freely, is important. A beach with ample space to explore, a garden with many nooks and crannies to discover, are 2 great ideas. When you hire me, I will send you a list of my favorite locations on Oahu to have your milestone photoshoot. You will choose one or two locations depending on vision. You may want to have 2 outfits and a different location for each. I am more than happy to help you choose the best locations!
